College Teams Football:
Your premier source of information for the 2004 - 2005 season!

NCAA Division I football is filled with 117 eclectic teams; each
with its own fabled traditions; each with its own legendary coaches
and stadiums. Hearing "Hail to the Victors" energize
the Big House in Ann Arbor, Michigan makes the hair stand up on
every college football fan's neck, not just the Wolverine faithful.
Seeing the Cotton Bowl split down the middle in Oklahoma Sooner
crimson and Texas Longhorns burnt orange for the annual Red River
Shootout is like an instant shot of adrenaline. The instate rivalry
between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers has been known
to divide families in the southeast. College football is all about
passion.
The turn of the century has seen the resurgence of past powers.
After winning three Super Bowls with the New England Patriots,
Charlie Weis has brought Notre Dame football back into the forefront. "The
Old Ball Coach," Steve Spurrier, after a brief stint with
the NFL's Washington Redskins, is back where he belongs, trying
to take the South Carolina Gamecocks to a new level. After an unthinkable
stretch of losing seasons, Penn State head coach Joe Paterno has
the Nittany Lions on the prowl once again. Those big timers from
Florida, the Gators, Seminoles and Hurricanes, also always seem
to have a say in the national title picture. But no team has risen
from the ashes to near the heights that Pete Carroll's Southern
California Trojans have reached. The beginning of the 21st century
will be remembered as the years the Trojan Dynasty ruled the college
football landscape.
How long will USC's rule last? That's what Mac Brown's Texas Longhorns,
Jim Tressell's Ohio State Buckeyes, Les Miles LSU Tigers, Frank
Beemer's Virginia Tech Hokies and Mark Richt's Georgia Bulldogs
are waiting to find out. From which conference will the next sleeping
giant emerge? The SEC? ACC? Big 12? Which program is waiting in
the wings to start its own dynasty, and when will it begin? Which
one of the rising programs, like the Fresno State Bulldogs, Northwestern
Wildcats, Texas Tech Red Raiders and Oregon Ducks, will take that
next step and become a national title contender?
